Michael Kasperzak has over 20 years of legal and dispute resolution experience. Principal of Dispute Resolution Specialists and co-founder of Silicon Valley Mediation Group, Mike is adept in handling matters involving business, aviation, employment, real estate, intellectual property, insurance, public agency, construction and pre-contract negotiations.

MEDIATION

Business/Commercial: business contracts; pre-contract negotiation; real estate matters including leases, condominium and disclosure issues; intellectual property; partnership and organizational disputes; planning and zoning; securities; construction; insurance; governmental entities; and professional fee disputes.

Employment: matters involving wrongful termination; sexual harassment; race and age discrimination; Americans with Disabilities Act and Title VII.

Torts: aviation; personal injury and wrongful death; products liability; professional negligence and medical malpractice.

Panels: Serves as a mediator for the United States District Court for the Northern District of California and the San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara County Superior Courts, the U. S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the California Department of Insurance, and the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD).

RELEVANT PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Mr. Kasperzak draws on over twenty five years of practical business, legal and government experience. A litigator for eleven years, Kasperzak successfully tried numerous personal injury and product liability matters and managed extensive international litigation claims portfolios. His public service includes ten years with the City of Mountain View as Mayor, Councilmember and Commissioner and he is actively engaged in local and state level advocacy and policy development. As a small business owner, Kasperzak has developed a keen understanding of the business practices and the issues facing the business community. Finally, Mr. Kasperzak has extensive non-profit governance experience with the American Red Cross, the Mountain View Chamber of Commerce, Lewis and Clark College and several local public benefit corporations. This unique experience provides Mr. Kasperzak with a broad understanding of issues relating to business, organizational structure, employment, the legal system and government agency disputes.

Mediation, negotiation, arbitration and ADR courses from Alternate Dispute Resolution Associates, American Academy of Attorney-Mediators, United States District Court, and the United States Bankruptcy Court.

MEMBERSHIPS AND SERVICE

Memberships: Santa Clara County Bar Association, Association for Conflict Resolution (formerly SPIDR), Northern California Mediation Association, California Dispute Resolution Council, Mountain View Chamber of Commerce, Lawyer Pilots Bar Association.

Service: Has served on the Board of Directors of the California Dispute Resolution Council, as a Trustee of the Santa Clara County Bar Association, and as a mediator for the County of Santa Clara, Project Sentinel and the Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center. He has also served as Chairman of the Mountain View Chamber of Commerce, the Palo Alto Area Red Cross, the Lewis & Clark College Alumni Association and the League of California Cities Revenue and Taxation Committee.

PUBLICATIONS

Kasperzak has authored numerous articles on mediation and dispute resolution including, Building Agreement Through Alternate Dispute Resolution and Using Mediation to Reduce Litigation Costs published in The Personnel News. He is a frequent speaker on the topic appearing before such organizations as the National CLE Conference of the Law Education Institute, the International Business Brokers Association Annual Convention, the Travel Age Trade Show and the Embry Riddle Aviation Law Insurance Symposium.
